Laurie is the school owner and administrator. Laurie founded Monkey See Monkey Do in 2007 and has enjoyed running it ever since. She is passionate about the Montessori system and takes immense pride and pleasure in watching the children develop in the classroom. She is currently on maternity leave and therefore isn’t currently acting as a classroom guide. Laurie has been working with preschool aged children for over 14 years, including 9 years as a Montessori preschool guide (both in Vancouver and in Switzerland). She has a BA from UBC, an AMI Montessori teaching certificate for 3-6 year olds, an Early Childhood Educator’s certificate (ECE), first aid training and many hours of professional development. She is a member of the North American Montessori Administrators Association as well as the International Montessori Council. She grew up in Vancouver and is pleased to be able to make a positive contribution to her community by running the school.
Paige is the acting manager in Laurie’s absence. She is the assistant for the morning class and the guide (teacher) for the afternoon class. Paige did her Montessori training in Vancouver as well as a bachelor’s degree in the Okanagan. Paige has four years experience as a Montessori guide and she brings a lot of enthusiasm and energy to the classroom. She has taken her yoga teacher training and is herself a very dedicated yoga practitioner. She enjoys working with the children in the gym, including teaching yoga.
Elena is the guide (teacher) in the morning class and the assistant in the afternoon class. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, she speaks both Spanish and English as her mother tongues, with French as a second language. She has been playing the piano since age six and her first career was as a classical concert pianist. With the birth of her two children, Elena discovered her passion for pregnancy, birth, and early childhood development. This led her to attend the AMI Assistants to Infancy training in San Diego, become certified as an AMI Montessori Primary guide at the Montessori Training Centre of B.C., as well as a DONA certified labour and birth doula. Elena believes that a patient, loving, supportive environment provides a necessary foundation for the growth of the child. In her spare time Elena enjoys yoga, crafts, hiking with the family, baking, reading and being a doula during the summers.
